yates was introduced as an emerging artist as part of the August exhibition. the paintings in this exhibition are based on actual and partially recalled memories and places. he aimed to create enigmatic landscapes and interior scenes informed by sketches, photographs, and recordings, both written and verbal in nature. using a limited palette and expressive brushwork, the resultant works become atmospheric evocations and nostalgic interpretations of fond family experiences.
